Physiotherapy & the Psychological
Aspects of Sports Injury

Welcome

As well as the obvious physiological impact, sports injury can have a significant impact on the psychology of the athlete. For example it is common for athletes to experience feelings of frustration, anger and anxiety in response to an injury. Sport psychology intervention can help athletes to deal with these feelings and approach their rehabilitation in a more positive way.

The psychological impact of sports injury and the potential role of sport psychology in sports injury rehabilitation interests me greatly and as such I have decided to undertake my doctoral studies within this field. This website will document my PhD research which examines the use of sport psychology amongst the physiotherapy profession in the UK.

The PhD is comprised of four studies as listed below. More information on these studies can be obtained by clicking on the links to the right of this screen.

  • Study 1
This study involves an audit of the psychology content of physiotherapy
    training in the UK.
  • Study 2
This study surveys practicing sport injury rehabilitation professionals
regarding their attitudes towards and use of sport psychology strategies.
  • Study 3
